In this tutorial intro to the ESP8266 Arduino WiFi Shield from www.8266.rocks, data is sent from an Arduino Uno to the cloud via an ESP8266 WiFi module using dweet.io and displayed graphically in real time using freeboard.io. The freeboard is then embedded in a Wix web page.

A short video demoing some hidden features of the Gameduino 2 that I received this week and the beginnings of my home automation project.
The Gameduino utilises the FTDI FT800 embedded video engine and looking through the data sheet I found some features that weren’t immediately available.
The first is the backlight. For a home automation product, it’s not very appropriate to have the screen at full brightness during the dead of night, or while watching tv. I saw the board includes a chip dedicated to PWM of the backlight and digging into the FTDI data sheet I was able to incorporate “dimming” into the interface.
